Racism on Big Brother: Shilpa Shetty to win
That's right. Being a victim of racism is turning out to be a win-win situation for Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty. No publicity is bad publicity. Who would have thought that a story on UK's Celebrity Big Brother would hog headlines even in international media. Forget Aishwarya and Abhishek's wedding - Shilpa is the most talked about person in India right now.
The friendly neighbourhood aunt arrives early in the morning to borrow a bowl of sugar - and asks how Shilpa is doing. At the office, people are no longer interested in cricket or Sachin - it's the latest racist remark on Big Brother that's fuelling workplace gossip. The weather is no longer a conversation starter at Page 3 parties -Shilpa Shetty has taken over top spot.
People in Patna are burning effigies of Shilpa's housemates and the issue threatens to snowball into a diplomatic war between India and Great Britain. You have Gordon Brown and Tony Blair talking about it. What more does Shilpa need. A statement from Osama bin Laden threatening to bomb the headquarters of series producer Endemol and broadcaster Channel Four? Well, that might just be in the pipeline.
As for me, I have been inundated by mails asking how and where to get video footage of Big Brother. For the record, you can get it on the show's official site here.
The Last Word: Is there racism on the show? Yes, there is but what people don't realise is that this racism stems from Shilpa's beauty and grace which is making the other woman housemates insanely jealous. The men on the show are going ga-ga over Shilpa and the women can't handle it. Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara and Danielle Lloyd are not getting enough attention from Dirk Benedict, Jermaine Jackson and Ian Watkins. And the only way they can get back at Shilpa is through racist comments. You don't believe me! What about Jade's threat to headbutt Shilpa?
Anyway, whether Shilpa wins the Big Brother contest or not, she will certainly benefit from renewed interest in her flagging Bollywood career. And that is what I call a win-win situation.

While I abhor racism, and unfairness I do believe that people are overlooking that Shilpa initially looked down her nose at Jade and acted in a prejudiced manner over her dialect. She laughed in Jade's face and repeatedly made fun of her. This is EQUALLY prejudiced and should be considered alongside the alleged racism.
i do not agree with the bullying that has taken place but I also feel that just because the three girls do not like Shilpa that does not make it necessarily racist. Dislike of an individual is not dislike of a race - other wise we would hate everybody wouldn't we. It has been extremely immature behaviour on both sides and embarrassing to watch. Shilpa's continuous flirting with Dirk and the childhishness of this whole issue has made me turn off.
It's all ridiculous, and (methinks) completely overblown by the media.
That said, I bet Jade's booted tonight and, either way, Shilpa's going to be on newspaper covers again tomorrow ... which is just what she wanted, innit?
To me Big Brother is only for the morons of the uk. It is the pits of modern TV and should be taken very lighly.
jade Goodie comes over as a complete moron and we should not put people like that on TV, certainly not make top stories on the news.
Shilpa is a girl I'd like to know better (In my dreams and if I was younger), Jade is a girl that is a typical silly girl and talks like one as well, just like a lot of others through lack of parenting these days.
Racist, well, Jade and most poeple that appear on that show are not to bright so ignore her and them.
We are all part of this planet, the world is one, and a lovely place to live if we gave it a chance. If Jade can't see that then don't take it in vain.
John Lennon wrote good lyrics in "Imagine".
I realise that India is no bed of roses and people have to work long hours for very little so good luck to Shilpa, and Shilpa,go on to make things better for the world, she's far from stupid unlike Jade.
I think at the end of the day it was just UK girls bitching which went a little to far, but at the end of the day it is free speech.
Free speech needs to be used wisely and sometimes we have to bite our tonge. Sometimes we have to take it with a pinch of salt.
Sometimes we have to except groups like the BNP because of free speech even if we hate their politics. In the end, most people get on black, white, Red, pink, or yellow, only governments cause trouble and a handfull of the un-educated.
It's a shame that the media is allowed to convict people even before the courts do.. but again free speech.
I don't think Jade is a bad a girl just lacking in lifes knowledge. We all learn by our mistakes.
Lets live in peace if we can.... your race is the same as my race... Human.
